LTC Replacement Buses

by

The background information included in Staff Report #1 from the 2006/02/01 agenda refers to “10 fewer replacement buses” than what is considered to be critically needed. That caused me to wonder if the reference was to the ability/need to maintain current service?

This, from Joanna Kurowski (LTC Manager of Service Quality)…

“The Commission’s original budget called for the replacement of 10 more replacement buses (used to replace aging buses in the existing fleet) over the period 2006 to 2010 than what was ultimately approved. The 10 buses would have further reduced the average of age of the fleet and helped to lower and maintain vehicle maintenance costs as well as improve service reliability. With cuts to the facility upgrade program, as approved by Municipal Council, the Commission considered, on balance, the more critical need given cuts to the original budget was to reduce the number of replacement buses to be purchased and shift the funding to the facility upgrade program.”
