Locally Grown Food – Ipsos Reid 2006/11 Survey

According to a new Ipsos Reid survey that was conducted 2006/11/10 – 2006/11/13, “Canadians believe locally grown food has many benefits over ‘regular’ food.”

When asked to pick from a list of locally grown fruits and vegetables, respondents apparently ranked the top benefit this way:

  1. 27% – they help their local economy
  2. 22% – they support family farmers
  3. 11% – no real benefits of locally grown fruits and vegetables over other fruits and vegetables.
  4. 10% – they taste better
  5. 6% – are healthier
  6. 5% – are cheaper
  7. 5% – are not genetically modified
  8. 5% – have no chemicals or synthetic pesticides
