photoIs there any rule that says public art can’t also be functional as well? If not, then London might want to reconsider the garish metal trees that it’s deployed throughout the core area.

Over in Vienna, Austria they’re field-testing designer trees that are actually solar-powered lights that should slash utility costs and cut down on carbon emissions.

London’s Public Art Program

November 28, 2007

London’s Creative City Task Force (CCTF) recommended that a policy re public art be created, because of the city’s goal “to define and strengthen the city’s unique identity” by “capturing the value of London’s heritage, culture, arts and diversity.” Consequently, a Public Art Policy was adopted by Council at it’s 2007/11/19 meeting.
